Greene County Historical Society: Library

The Library is located behind the museum building. Once the boiler house for the poor farm, the renovated brick structure is now the repository for the thousands of photographs, books, papers, ledgers and accounts in the museum’s collection.

The Greene County Historical Society maintains a Local History and Archives Library on the Museum property at 918 Rolling Meadows Road, Waynesburg, PA. The collection focuses on the history of Greene County, Pennsylvania with limited information on bordering Fayette and Washington Counties and the nearby states of West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and Virginia.

Due to an ongoing, large archival project, the library is not open for researchers and the material does not circulate, but museum staff can answer some inquiries with the following limitations.

Staff is limited and so is their time. All research inquiries will be at the staffs discretion of time needed and individual research request whether genealogical or local history in nature, is limited to one hour of staff time and a base fee of $12.00, additional fees for photocopies and postage will be due for any information received.

Photocopy rates: Members and students are .25 cents per page. Non-members are .40 cents per page - page size is limited to 8.5 x 11.

Research by mail is the recommended procedure, with a one hour per request time limit and a fee of $12.00 whether any information is found or not.

Any initial requests made by phone or e-mail will be asked to be sent as a written request.

Photograph copies: Copies of photographs from the Society's archives are available. Photos 5 x 7 or smaller are $3.00 each, and sizes of 8 x 10 are $5.00 each.

Postage/Handling fees: $1.00 for every ten pages (1-10) of photocopies and $2.00 for every five photographs, in addition to copying and other fees.
